Imagine if the Drill would place blocks instead of remove them, that is basically this concept
- WHAT THE THINGAMABOOBER WOULD DO IN MORE DETAIL
Searches for the nearest block and then builds off of it rapidly with whatever block you're holding (in multiple different directions)
This would NOT replace any blocks and you'd have to do that by hand
This would be very useful for larger builds that take very, VERY long to do block by block
- CRAFTING RECEPIE
1 Drill Containment Unit
Shimmer
(Not very original but hey, whatever)
If this sounds too busted, remember the Drill must be crafted first therefore you're already at endgame, so like... that really doesnt matter at that point
- RUSHED CONCEPT ART I DID IN MS PAINT (Reskinned Drill Unit, I know, very original)

Would you be able to shimmer this back into a DCU as well?

Your description implies that whatever block is targeted the placed blocks spread out from similar to when they lacing walls. It should work the direct reverse of the drill where it will fill a five by one are in front of you.

I think the wall building thing would work for the tool's goal, that being to fill in large gaps where you are building

actually, i agree with stellarmastodon here. the 5 wide column that it operates in should remain with the item after shimmering; imo it makes more sense and would be easier all-round.
using the wall-placement algorithm would make a lot of the block placement "random" or spontaneous, often in places you don't want it
maintaining the 5 wide column lets you build how you want, you could build straight walls, fill in holes, etc.

i mean thats not what id see personally fit but hey whatever as long as we get a better form of building than just 1 block at a time

I mean, I'm not really against it, but I feel like a lot of builders like to go slow and place blocks with care and precision. When it comes to filling in large spaces quickly, it could be useful, but that's only if you refuse to use Dirt instead of whatever specific block you're building with.

i think the point of this is for large terrain builds and filling in lots of blocks at once
like building mountains and island n stuff

We have Dirt Bombs for that, though.

What ABOUT stone? If all you're doing is filling in terrain, surely you only need stone if you want stone to be visible? For anything more than a few blocks deep, dirt is just fine, no?

you could still see the dirt on your map so.... yeah...

Honestly, I fell like this item could be used to make decent sky islands(provided it doesn't also automatically try to replace certain blocks with the new one.)
